Dental crowns in Arlington Heights
What are crowns?
Dental crowns are made custom to cover the needed tooth and colored to blend with your natural teeth for an attractive finish. Crowns are a type of dental restoration used to repair a cracked, decaying, or otherwise damaged tooth. A crown fits over the top of your tooth, covering the entire portion of your enamel that sits above the gum line. In addition to preventing further damage, a crown restores the shape, strength, and physical appearance of your affected tooth.
What are bridges?
Bridges are dental restorations used to fill gaps in your smile. If you lose a permanent tooth as the result of an extraction or sports-related injury, a bridge can fill the gap and prevent your surrounding permanent teeth from moving out of place. There are many different types of dental bridges, but Dr. Poles usually recommends traditional bridges. He attaches a traditional bridge to your surroundings, healthy teeth using dental crowns. A prosthetic tooth, or pontic, fills the gap, restoring your smile.

What is the process for receiving crowns and bridges?
Receiving crowns and bridges usually takes a series of appointments. During your initial consultation, Dr. Poles performs an oral exam, takes a series of X-rays, and asks you questions about your dental health. After gathering all of this information, he prepares your tooth — or teeth — to receive a crown or bridge. Dr. Poles administers a local anesthetic and carefully files down your teeth to make room for your crown or bridge. Afterward, he takes a series of impressions of your teeth using dental putty. Finally, Dr. Poles sends your impressions to a laboratory that manufactures your crown or bridge.
A week or two later, you return to Omni Dental and Dr. Poles places your crown or bridge. To do this, he administers a local anesthetic, carefully lines up your dental restoration, and bonds it in place using dental cement. The entire process usually takes no longer than 60 minutes.
