Can one Buffalo Grove dentist care for your whole family?
Yes. Omni Dental of Arlington Heights is a general and family practice a short drive south of Buffalo Grove, and it welcomes patients of every age.
Dr. Bilus D Poles DDS,MAGD,DICOI, DIDIA, sees children, teens, parents and grandparents for checkups, fillings and extractions, so your household keeps one set of records.

Planning checkups around the school year
School calendars decide when most families can get to the dentist. One office for the whole family makes planning simpler. These habits help:
- Book before school starts. A late summer checkup can catch a cavity before routines get busy.
- Group appointments. Ask about booking family members together, so one trip covers more than one person.
- Book after-school times early. The office is open until 6 PM on weekdays and closed on weekends.
- Set the next dental visit before you leave. Checkups are easier to keep when they are already on the calendar.
- Bring every insurance card. Two parents may carry different plans.

Cavities in kids: what parents should watch for
Children can get cavities soon after their first teeth come in. Baby teeth have thinner enamel, so decay can spread faster than in adult teeth. Watch for:
- White, brown or dark spots on the teeth
- Wincing at cold drinks or sweets
- Food that keeps getting stuck in one place
- Chewing on only one side
Good oral habits at home lower the risk. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and limiting sticky, sugary snacks both help.
How fillings work for kids and adults
A filling repairs a tooth after the decay is removed. A small cavity usually means a smaller filling and a shorter visit.
Lips and cheeks can stay numb for a few hours, so wait before chewing. Younger kids may need a reminder not to bite a numb cheek. Here is more on how fillings are placed.
- 1 Numbing. The tooth and nearby gum are numbed.
- 2 Cleaning out decay. The soft, damaged part of the tooth is removed.
- 3 Filling and shaping. The space is filled and shaped to your bite.
- 4 Bite check. Dr. Poles checks how the teeth meet and smooths any high spots.

Can a dentist pull a rotten, broken tooth?
Yes. General dentists remove most badly decayed or broken teeth. Dr. Poles first checks whether a filling, crown or root canal can save the tooth, since keeping it is usually the better choice.
- Simple extraction: the tooth is above the gum and comes out whole after numbing.
- Surgical extraction: the tooth is broken at the gumline, so a small opening in the gum lets it come out in pieces.
- Baby tooth extraction: needed when a baby tooth is badly decayed, infected or blocking an adult tooth.
You can read what to expect from an extraction, including aftercare.

Gum health at every age
Periodontal (gum) disease is not only an adult problem. Teens in braces and grandparents with crowns or partial dentures both need regular gum checks. Routine cleanings include a look at the gums, which keeps small problems small.

What affects the cost of a family dental visit?
Cost depends on what each visit includes and on each person’s plan:
- Visit type: a checkup, a filling and an extraction each take different time and materials.
- X-rays: taken when needed, not at every visit.
- Insurance: Omni accepts most major plans, including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Delta Dental and MetLife.
- Treatment choice: when there is more than one option, each has a different cost.
Bring each person’s insurance card and ask Atziri Cruz at the front desk what each plan covers before treatment.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do not see your question? Call us and we will talk it through.
Call (847) 483-8833Do you see children as well as adults?
Yes. Omni Dental is a general and family practice, so children, teens and adults are seen at the same office. Routine children's care such as checkups, cleanings and fillings happens here. If a child needs extensive treatment, Dr. Poles will talk with you about a pediatric referral.
How much does a dental appointment cost?
There is no single price. It depends on whether the visit is a checkup, a filling or an extraction, whether X-rays are needed, and what your plan pays. Call (847) 483-8833 and ask the front desk what your plan may cover before any treatment starts.
Should a decayed baby tooth be filled if it will fall out anyway?
Often, yes. Baby teeth hold space for the adult teeth and matter for chewing and clear speech. A decayed baby tooth can become painful or infected long before it would fall out. Dr. Poles checks how close the adult tooth is, then suggests a filling, extraction or watching it.
What should my child eat after a tooth extraction?
For the first few days, offer soft foods that need little chewing, like yogurt, scrambled eggs, applesauce or mashed potatoes. Skip straws and very hot drinks, since they can disturb the clot that protects the socket. Dr. Poles gives aftercare instructions that fit your child's extraction.
Is Omni accepting new patients from Buffalo Grove?
Call (847) 483-8833 to ask about openings for each family member. To move your family over, ask your old office to send recent X-rays and records once you sign a release. Bring a list of any medicines each person takes to the first visit.
