Thinking about switching dentists in at Omni Dental in Arlington Heights, IL

Thinking about switching dentists in Rolling Meadows?

Switching is simpler than most people expect: you book with the new office and sign a records release, and your X-rays and history move over. Omni Dental’s Arlington Heights office sits just northeast of Rolling Meadows. Dr. Bilus D Poles DDS,MAGD,DICOI, DIDIA, explains each recommendation before anything is done.

Common reasons people change dentists at Omni Dental in Arlington Heights, IL

Common reasons people change dentists

  • Their dentist retired or the office changed hands.
  • They moved, changed jobs or changed insurance.
  • They want one office for routine care and implants.
  • They felt rushed or unsure about a recommendation.

Omni accepts most major dental plans, including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Delta Dental and MetLife. Coverage depends on your plan.

How to move your records to a new dentist

Here is what new patients bring to the first visit.

  1. 1 Book a first visit. Call (847) 483-8833 and mention that you are switching.
  2. 2 Request your records. Ask your old office for recent X-rays and your treatment history. Most offices send them once you sign a release.
  3. 3 Bring the basics. Your insurance card, a list of medicines and any treatment plan you were given.
  4. 4 Get a fresh exam. Dr. Poles reviews your records and does his own full exam.

Signs of a dentist you can trust

Most dentists practice honestly. Still, it helps to know what good care looks like next to the warning signs:

Good signWarning sign
You see the X-ray or photo behind each recommendationMany new cavities found, with no images shown
Urgent and optional work are kept apartPressure to start a large plan on the spot
You hear more than one option, including waitingOnly one option, presented as urgent
License and training are easy to confirmCredentials are hard to find
Records are shared when you askReluctance to hand over X-rays or records
Costs are explained before treatmentCosts change once you are in the chair

If something feels off, ask for your records and get a second opinion. That is a normal step.

When is a second opinion worth it: Omni Dental, Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights, IL

When is a second opinion worth it?

A second opinion makes sense whenever a plan is large, costly or surprising. Common examples are several crowns at once, removing a tooth that does not hurt, or full-mouth work.

If you switch to Omni, bring the plan and your recent X-rays. Dr. Poles does his own exam, then explains what he finds and your options in plain words.

What a thorough first exam covers

A complete exam looks at far more than cavities:

Dr. Poles then explains what is healthy, what to watch and what to treat. You can ask for a written estimate for any treatment.

  1. 1 Teeth: decay, cracks, and worn or leaking fillings and crowns.
  2. 2 Gums: pocket depths, bleeding and recession.
  3. 3 Bite and jaw: how your teeth meet, signs of grinding and jaw comfort.
  4. 4 Soft tissues: a check of the tongue, cheeks, palate and throat.
  5. 5 X-rays when needed: based on your history, not a fixed schedule for everyone.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do not see your question? Call us and we will talk it through.

Call (847) 483-8833

How can I tell if a dentist is recommending work I do not need?

Ask to see the X-ray or photo that shows the problem, ask what happens if you wait, and ask what other options exist. A careful dentist answers all three without pressure. If the plan is large or surprising, a second opinion with your X-rays in hand is sensible.

Do I need to bring my old X-rays?

It helps. Recent X-rays from your old office show how your teeth have changed and may mean fewer new images. Dr. Poles decides whether any new X-rays are needed.

Will my old dentist mind if I switch?

Changing offices is routine, and records requests are a normal part of dental practice. You do not need to give a reason. Omni's front desk can tell you what to ask your old office for.

How often do I need dental X-rays?

It depends on your risk. People with frequent cavities, gum disease or ongoing treatment may need them more often, while people with healthy teeth and few past problems need them less. Dr. Poles decides based on your history rather than taking the same X-rays at every visit.

Does Omni Dental offer dental implants?

Yes. Implant care, including All-on-4 and full arch options, is planned and placed at the Arlington Heights office alongside routine care. Dr. Poles is a Board Certified Diplomate of both the ICOI and the IDIA, and he completed advanced implant training at the ILAPEO Institute in Brazil.
