What type of dentist does dental implants for Hoffman Estates patients?
Implants can be placed by oral surgeons, periodontists or general dentists with advanced implant training. What matters most is the dentist’s training and how well the case is planned.
Dr. Poles is a general dentist who has focused on implant training. He is a Board Certified Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the International Dental Implant Association, and he trained at the ILAPEO Institute in Curitiba, Brazil, in 2022 and 2025.
Because he also plans and fits the crown, bridge or denture, you work with one doctor from the first X-ray to the final tooth.

Not enough bone? What grafting means for your plan
Jawbone shrinks after a tooth is lost, because nothing is stimulating it anymore. If too much has been lost, an implant may need extra support.
Bone grafting adds material where the bone is thin, and your body builds new bone around it over time. It adds healing time, but it can turn a “no” into a “yes”. In the upper back jaw, a sinus lift may be discussed for the same reason.
Dr. Poles reviews your X-rays with you and explains whether your bone is ready now or needs to be built up first.

Fitting treatment around work and family
Live or work in Hoffman Estates? Plan visits around our hours: Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Placement is usually a single appointment, and at your consultation you learn what to expect for time off in your case.
For the healing months in between, you eat softer foods on that side and keep the area clean as directed. If the implant is in a visible spot, ask about a temporary tooth so you are not left with a gap.

What aftercare looks like in the first days
Your dentist will give you written instructions for your own case. Common post-operative advice includes:
- take it easy for the rest of the day
- use a cold pack on the cheek for swelling
- eat soft, cool foods and chew on the other side
- keep the area clean gently, as directed
- avoid smoking, which slows healing and can weaken the bond with the bone
Call the office if bleeding, pain or swelling gets worse instead of better.
Keeping your implant healthy for the long run
An implant cannot decay, but the gum and bone around it can still get infected. Good oral hygiene looks a lot like caring for natural teeth:
Omni Dental offers cleanings, exams and laser therapy for gum disease, so your implants and your other teeth are cared for in one office.
- 1 Brush twice a day with a soft brush, angled at the gumline.
- 2 Clean between teeth with floss, small brushes or a water flosser.
- 3 Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.
- 4 Keep your regular cleanings and exams so the implant can be checked.

Why do dental implants cost more than other options?
An implant replaces the whole tooth, root and all. The fee covers planning and X-rays, the surgery, the implant post, the connector and a custom crown made to match your teeth.
Grafting, extractions and the number of implants add to it. A bridge or partial denture often costs less up front, and we compare both with you at your exam. For a full list of factors, see implant cost factors.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do not see your question? Call us and we will talk it through.
Call (847) 483-8833Is it painful to have a dental implant put in?
The area is numbed with local anesthesia, so most people feel pressure rather than sharp pain during placement. Expect some tenderness and swelling for a few days afterward. Your dentist will explain how to manage it and which signs mean you should call the office.
Can I get an implant if I lost the tooth a long time ago?
Often, yes. The bone may have thinned since the tooth came out, so you might need a bone graft before the implant is placed. That adds healing time but does not always rule implants out. X-rays at your consultation show how much bone you have to work with.
Do health conditions like diabetes affect implants?
Some conditions and medications can slow healing, so they are part of planning rather than an automatic no. Your overall health matters, so bring a full list of your conditions and medications. Dr. Poles may ask to coordinate with your physician before treatment.
Can a front tooth implant look natural?
Front teeth take extra planning because the gumline and crown shade are on show. The final crown is shaped and shaded to blend with the teeth beside it, and the gum around it is shaped as it heals. A temporary tooth can fill the gap while you heal.
Will dental insurance pay for an implant?
It depends on your plan. Some plans help with part of the treatment, such as the exam, X-rays, extraction or crown, while others exclude implants. Omni Dental accepts most major dental plans, including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Delta Dental and MetLife.
What happens if an implant has a problem later?
Call your dentist if you notice bleeding, swelling or looseness around an implant. Inflammation around implants is easier to treat when it is caught early, which is one reason regular exams matter. A loose crown or screw on top can often be fixed without touching the implant itself.
